Tom Uglys Bridge

Looking underneath Tom Uglys Bridge, which crosses the Georges River and links the southern suburbs of Blakehurst and Sylvania. This truss bridge on the left, opened in 1929 and the box girder bridge on the right, opened in 1987. To the north is Tom Uglys Point at Blakehurst, believed to be named after local resident Tom Huxley and transformed by the mispronunciation by local Aborigines.

Tom Uglys Bridge, Georges River

Tom Uglys Bridge crosses the Georges River and links the southern suburbs of Blakehurst and Sylvania. This view is from a boat ramp at the Sylvania end between the truss bridge on the left, which opened in 1929 and the box girder bridge on the right, which opened in 1987. It looks north towards Tom Uglys Point at Blakehurst, believed to be named after local resident Tom Huxley and transformed by the mispronunciation by local Aborigines.

Bardwell Valley, Silver Jubilee Park, planter box


This planter box is in Silver Jubilee Park, on the corner of Lorraine Avenue and Alsace Avenue, in the southern suburb of Bardwell Valley. Soon after it was installed, it was tagged with graffiti. Then another street artist covered the tag with three images of cats. So far, the local council hasn't removed this street art.

Haymarket, Darling Square, Steam Mill Lane

This sculpture is one of eight designs suspended above Steam Mill Lane at Darling Square, in the inner city suburb of Haymarket. "Night and Day, Day and Night" features large and colourful geometric shapes created by Peta Kruger. At night neon lights flick on inside the shapes to illuminate the shapes, colours and the street below.

Tempe railway station

 Tempe railway station was built in 1884 and is located in the inner west suburb of Tempe. This station was once a junction of the Illawarra and East Hills railway lines but is now only served by Sydney Trains T4 Illawarra line. The trains departing from platform 2 head south.

Tempe railway station

Tempe railway station was built in 1884 and is located in the inner west suburb of Tempe. This station was once a junction of the Illawarra and East Hills railway lines but is now only served by Sydney Trains T4 Illawarra line. The trains departing on platform 1 head north to the city but this Tangara or T set train is heading south towards Wolli Creek.

Riverwood, mural

 
This mural has been painted on the side wall of a shop on the corner of Belmore Road and Littleton Street, in the southwest suburb of Riverwood. It was created in 2023 by street artist Steven Nuttall, also known as The Ox King. It features bees and flowers native to the area like the Gosford Wattle, Magenta Lilly Pilly and Sydney Golden Wattle.

Little Bay Beach, helicopter


This helicopter was conducting a search of Little Bay Beach last weekend after a man was swept off the rocks by a rising swell, in the eastern suburb of Little Bay. PolAir, also known as Aviation Command, provides helicopter and fixed wing aircraft services to police with duties which include search and rescue, patrol control and reconnaissance tasks.

Coogee, Wedding Cake Island

 
Wedding Cake Island, viewed from Coogee Beach in the eastern suburb of Coogee. The island is one kilometre off the coast, in the Pacific Ocean and is named for its white, flat top and layers resembling a wedding cake, especially when whitecaps break over it. There were swells rising up to four metres this week which battered the coastline and this island.

This mural is on the side wall of a high rise apartment block along Gardeners Road in the eastern suburb of Kingsford. It stands beside a low rise block of flats. The mural was created in 2024 by muralist and visual artist Sophi Odling.

Looking past a palm tree to the Pacific Ocean from Grant Reserve in the eastern suburb of Coogee. There were swells rising up to four metres this week which battered the coastline.

Coogee, Ross Jones Memorial Pool

The Ross Jones Memorial Pool is located next to the Surf Life Saving Club at Coogee Beach, in the eastern suburb of Coogee. Yesterday, swells rising to four metres battered the coastline and closed beaches across Sydney amid concerns about dangerous swimming conditions. This tidal pool attracted some swimmers who were keen to experience the rough waves smashing in, with nearby lifesavers keeping an eye on them.

Mascot, Billy's Bridge


Billy's Bridge is over Alexandra Canal and links Qantas Drive in the eastern suburb of Mascot with the Tempe Recreational Reserve in inner west suburb of Tempe. When the Twin Arch Bridge opened in 2024, it is restricted to a bicycle and pedestrian bridge. The jet fuel tanks are at Sydney International Airport.

General Post Office, colonnade


The General Post Office (GPO) building is located at 1 Martin Place between George Street and Pitt Street. The GPO was constructed in stages from 1864 to 1891, designed by James Barnet in the Victorian Free Classical style. In 1999, the GPO building was redeveloped as part of a hotel and office building behind it. A smaller post office is still located in this corner beside boutiques, cafes and restaurants. A restaurant provides outdoor seating along the colonnade.

Rockdale, Australian white ibis


These Australian white ibises forage for food in the vegetation which grows along a canal along Rockdale Plaza Drive, in the southern suburb of Rockdale. The ibis has come to be regarded as a problem species in urban areas as a result of their scavenging activities, scattering rubbish from bins in the process. The species has acquired a variety of colloquial names such as "bin chicken" or "bin chook".
